The world's most famous zebra crossing is the
one featured on the Beatles' Abbey Road album in North London.
Zebra
crossings were introduced in Britain on 4 April 1949.
The Name
Zebra was chosen because it was thought that it would be easily understood and remembered
by children. It was chosen by the then
parliamentary secretary to the ministry of transport.
